Events calendar

Please take a look at the events calendar, which at the moment is notice of this years club tournaments.  We hope to add to this as we go through the year and welcome any suggestions from members with ideas for either social or fundraising events that would appeal to the members.

Social Tennis

At our club we have a very strong bond and play lots of social tennis. This is a less competitive and more fun form of playing tennis, enjoying a more social approach with members.  This is a great way of keeping yourself on top of your game, as well as always improving and giving an opportunity to get to know a wider group of players at the club.

Social tennis is open to any club member who has full membership and continues all through the year, being played under the floodlights throughout the winter months at no additional cost to members.

Social tennis runs:

Mondays - 6pm - 10pm

Saturdays - 2pm - 5.30pm

Match Practice

We also have a men’s practice, ladies’ practice and mixed practice, where the team players can gel together and play more intensely, ready for upcoming matches.  We run a programme of fixed fours for all the midweek practice sessions.  Once signed up for fixed fours you will receive a time slot and you will play for an hour and a half within your slot against 3 other players.  The fixed fours are allocated by the relevant team captains and as far as possible, the four's selected will try to ensure players are allocated within a group of matched ability.

Men’s Practice:

Sundays - 10am - 1pm

Tuesdays - 6pm - 10pm

Ladies’ Practice:

Wednesdays- 6pm - 10pm

Sundays - 1.30pm - 5pm

Mixed Practice:

Thursdays - 6pm - 10pm

Club Tournaments

We hold over 10 main annual tennis tournaments for club members throughout the year.

Annual Club Tournament:

We play our club tournament between June – September, ending with finals day in September.  We run Men’s singles, Men’s doubles, Ladies’ singles, Ladies’ doubles, Mixed doubles, and Vet's tournaments.  Once all the names are entered, singles players are seeded and drawn in a knockout tournament, each match being best of 3 tiebreak sets. All doubles players are drawn partners at random and again play knockout matches best of 3 tiebreak sets.

Open Season Tournament:

We kick off the Spring season with an open season tournament in April.  With the winter ending and the spring starting, the open season tournament starts the match play season.  This is a doubles tournament that runs a men’s side and a ladies’ side.  Each player will play 4/5 matches, each being 8 games long, switching partners after the first four.  However many games you win out of this 8, is the score you get and proceed with.  With all the matches played, the four highest scoring men and four highest scoring ladies’ progress to the two finals. Number 1 will play with number 4 and number 2 and 3 play together.  Both the men’s and ladies’ final are then contested by one tie break set.

Closing Season Tournament:

We end the Summer season with a closed season tournament, usually in the final weekend of September.  With the summer ending and autumn starting, the closed season tournament ends the match play season.  This is a doubles tournament that runs a men’s side and a ladies’ side.  Each player will play 4/5 matches, each being 8 games long, switching partners after the first four. However many games you win out of this 8, is the score you get and proceed with.  With all the matches played, the two highest scoring men and two highest scoring ladies’ progress to a mixed doubles final.  Number 1 male will play with the number 2 lady and the number 2 male and number 1 lady play together.  This mixed doubles final is then contested by one tie break set.

Veterans Tournament:

Veterans tournament is classed for members 35 and over.

Speed Tournament:

Speed tournaments happen in every first week of the month throughout Winter.  The rules of a speed tournament are very different.  You play with random partners and play as many games as possible in 10 minutes.  The match is played to the speed of the server, there are no lets off serve and there is deciding point deuces.  After 4/5 matches, the 4 highest scoring players go through to play a 10 minute final.

Junior Tournament:

We have a club tournament for junior member under the age of 18 and another under the age of 14.  These run between June – September ending with junior finals day in September.  We run Junior singles tournaments.  Once all the names are entered, singles players are seeded and drawn in a knockout tournament, each match being best of 3 tiebreak sets.
